Viewed: Series 1-3 And for my last binge of 2017, I got through all three seasons (so far) of Plebs, which was sold to me as The Inbetweeners in Ancient Rome - and that's pretty accurate. However, it's also much more than that; it's very much its own thing and holds its own identity beyond such comparisons. It's a stroke of creative genius to transpose contemporary characters and anachronistic ideas into an ancient setting (after all, would we really need another coming of age show about hopeless young characters?), and the writing is witty enough to make the most of its unique premise. Episode stories are constantly interesting, the characters are a riot, dialogue is uproarious, and I'm joyed by just about every frame. It's also British to boot. This quickly became one of my new favourite shows.

“Movie-goers who believe Marvel blockbusters are too generic or feel factory-made really ought to watch 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, as it confidently defies those labels and feels like the work of a genuine auteur. “Despite its critical and commercial success, certain vocal armchair critics felt that 2015's Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens played things too "safe," and merely rehashed 1977's Star Wars. Answering that criticism is writer-director Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi, ” read more

“2017's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is probably the best instalment in this particular franchise since its initial entry, 2003's The Curse of the Black Pearl, but that's still damning with faint praise. Indeed, this fourth sequel is still studiously mediocre and in need of more e” read more

“Falling under the "Ozploitation" banner, 1981's Attack Force Z is a low-budget war movie that at once endeavours to be a proper historical document and a Roger Corman-esque action flick. Viewed: Season 1 Big Mouth is an enjoyable, funny show - nothing more, nothing less. I never found myself completely enthralled by the show and always looking forward to another episode, but I was entertained whenever I popped on an episode, and I still wanted to stick with the series until the end. The themes relating to being a teenager are relevant and relatable, and characters are well-written and easy to distinguish from one another. It's not always hilarious per se, but I did laugh out loud from time to time, and the bawdiness is certainly bold for an animated show. Yeah, this one isn't for kids. This show isn't a must-see, but I don't regret watching it.
