“A unique micro-budget horror movie from executive producer Jason Blum, 2015's Unfriended essentially plays out like a big-screen Creepypasta, and it's an intriguing extension of the well-worn "found-footage" subgenre. Rather than "lost" film reels or digital video discovered on SD cards, almost ever” read more

“Designed to feel like a natural extension of the iconic Batman: The Animated Series, and part of the DC Animated Universe at large, 2017's Batman and Harley Quinn should be something of a can't-miss prospect, but instead it's another total letdown that deserves to fade into obscurity. Viewed: Season 1 Outside of two exceptional seasons of Daredevil, the Netflix original Marvel shows have been distinctly hit-and-miss - I didn't even bother checking out Iron Fist after such terrible reviews. But The Punisher is thankfully a return to form, standing confidently alongside Daredevil. This is an excellent show packed with absorbing drama and riveting, violent action, and the tone is spot-on for a show about Frank Castle/The Punisher (still played to perfection by Jon Bernthal). Yes, most of the action is reserved for the final few episodes, and the slow-burn build-up may test your patience, but the payoff is incredibly satisfying, and it all adds up. It's astonishingly well-made, of course (watching in 4K with Dolby Vision is the definitive way to go), while the writing and all the performances are very strong. Admittedly, Castle should be more of an expert tactician, but there is room for improvement in this respect in future seasons - the proper foundations are in place for the definitive version of The Punisher, and I hope it gets there. Amazing show.
A studious waste of talent and potential
“On the surface, 2017's The House ostensibly had all the right ingredients to become an instant dark comedy classic. But despite the presence of Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler, plus a colourful supporting cast of recognisable names and a promising comedic plot, The House falls flat for the most part - ” read more
