And for my last binge of 2017, I got through all three seasons (so far) of Plebs, which was sold to me as The Inbetweeners in Ancient Rome - and that's pretty accurate. However, it's also much more than that; it's very much its own thing and holds its own identity beyond such comparisons. It's a stroke of creative genius to transpose contemporary characters and anachronistic ideas into an ancient setting (after all, would we really need another coming of age show about hopeless young characters?), and the writing is witty enough to make the most of its unique premise. Episode stories are constantly interesting, the characters are a riot, dialogue is uproarious, and I'm joyed by just about every frame. It's also British to boot. This quickly became one of my new favourite shows.
