First Viewing Viewing Date: May 29th Via: Stan. Plot: A film that excavates layers of myth and memory to find the elusive truth at the core of a family of storytellers. Rating: 8.4/10 Why Did I Watch It? YouTube recommended it when I watched Capturing the Friedmans, and the title sounded familiar. Turns out that it was on my 2013 cinema watchlist from ten years ago. When I found it on Stan., I made it a priority before it fell by the wayside.

First Viewing Viewing Date: May 28th Via: Apple TV+ Plot: Follows the life of beloved actor and advocate Michael J. Fox, exploring his personal and professional triumphs and travails, and what happens when an incurable optimist confronts an incurable disease. Rating: 9.2/10 Why Did I Watch It? It interested me, the insanely positive reviews caught my attention, and I could watch it for free on Apple TV+. Plus, it's short and sweet at 95 minutes.

First Viewing Viewing Date: May 28th Via: Stan. Plot: In Japan, a veteran samurai is charged with ending the tyrannical reign of Lord Naritsugu. Working with twelve other samurai, they set a trap for the Lord and his soldiers that will prevent him from ascending the throne. Rating: 8.3/10 Why Did I Watch It? This was on my watchlist when it first came out, and I even included it on my "Looking Forward to in 2010" list back in the day. But it has always eluded me, I think because I was holding out for a copy of the longer international cut. But the shorter version is on Stan. and I thought, fuck it, I need to watch it.

Plot: A hotshot young lawyer joins a prestigious law firm, lured by a lucrative employment contract, but soon discovers that it has a sinister dark side - and the FBI are out to expose them. Rating: 7.7/10 Why Did I Watch It? This has been on my watchlist for years across more than one streaming service due to the cast and the premise. It leaves Stan. soon, so I took my chance to watch it.

First Viewing Viewing Date: May 28th Via: YouTube Movies Plot: Documentary on the Friedmans, a seemingly typical, upper-middle-class Jewish family whose world is instantly transformed when the father and his youngest son are arrested and charged with shocking and horrible crimes. Rating: 9.0/10 Why Did I Watch It? I remember the furore this created when it first came out, and it eluded me for years. This recently reappeared on my radar via an IMDb recommendation, and I promptly jumped on it.

First Viewing Viewing Date: May 27th Via: Amazon Prime Video (via a VPN) Plot: During the war in Afghanistan, a local interpreter risks his own life to carry an injured sergeant across miles of grueling terrain. Rating: 8.9/10 Why Did I Watch It? The great reviews, the cast and director Guy Ritchie had me interested in this one since the word "go." I needed to watch it as soon as possible.

First Viewing Viewing Date: May 26th Via: Disney+ Plot: A gorilla named Ivan tries to piece together his past with the help of an elephant named Ruby as they hatch a plan to escape from captivity. Rating: 6.7/10 Why Did I Watch It? I saw Bryan Cranston's social media reaction to the movie being removed from Disney+, and his appeal to watch it before it is gone. It's removed from D+ today, so I took my chance to watch it. After all, it's being essentially vaulted indefinitely.

First Viewing Viewing Date: May 26th Via: Cinema Plot: Renfield, Dracula's henchman and inmate at the lunatic asylum for decades, longs for a life away from the Count, his various demands, and all of the bloodshed that comes with them. Rating: 7.2/10 Why Did I Watch It? The trailers intrigued me, it looked like a lot of fun. I needed to see it as soon as it hit Aussie cinemas.

First Viewing Viewing Date: May 24th Via: Netflix Plot: Set in the distant future where both North and South Koreas agree to establish a joint government, which has been in preparation for a duration of 7 years, the plot focuses on political uprisings on opposing sides which grow fierce when a special police unit is formed to stop the chaos. Rating: 5.8/10 Why Did I Watch It? It looked interesting and it was about to leave Netflix.

First Viewing Viewing Date: May 23rd Via: Amazon Prime Video (via a VPN) Plot: When an ex-soldier who discovers gold in the Lapland wilderness tries to take the loot into the city, Nazi soldiers led by a brutal SS officer battle him. Rating: 8.3/10 Why Did I Watch It? The hype made this sound like something that was tailor-made for me. I was absolutely all in for this one as soon as it became available.

First Viewing Viewing Date: May 22nd Via: iTunes Store Plot: A young divorcee is getting her life back together by moving into an apartment of her own. But she starts receiving mysterious calls from a dangerous person who's calling from the past. Rating: 6.4/10 Why Did I Watch It? It was a cheap rental and I like horror movies, especially if they have promising IMDb ratings.
